Introducing...
Hello there! I am the monkey Queen, nice to meet you!
Why am I the Monkey Queen? Because I am a bitchy, bossy monkey woman, who likes her monkey boys big, loud and bossy.
I am here to share with you the joyful and intense experience of being a monkey. If you are not feeling joyful, and are not having many experiences any old how; in short, if you are bored out of your fucking mind, it might just be that you're confusing the monkey you are with the human you think you ought to be.
Are you a monkey too?
We are strange creatures, that much is clear to most of us who have taken the trouble to look around us every once in a while. We 'imagine', and the results of that can be seen all around us. Psychologists and other professionals in this line of research are always full of complicated explanations of why we are so different from other animals, but what it comes down to is this: we have an imagination. We can think about things that are not here (yet).
It is the most beautiful and yet most terrible affliction you can.., yes, imagine. It can create wonderful things which bring more joy into our lives, but can also be used to construct monsters in our minds and in our lives. Creating possible or probable solutions to dangerous situations in our minds might offer us more chances for survival, deducing facts from previous experience might be advantageous for your future, but what of sacrificing you life to, for example, the imagination of someone who, thousands of years ago, thought he had divined the meaning of the divine, or for the imagined border between the idea of two countries?
Where does observation end and imagination begin?
I am convinced that there are some faculties we are constantly confusing, and therefore causing confusion in both ourselves and others. We observe and we imagine. These two are a powerful combination, no matter the context, but are we aware of which part is observation, which part deduction, and which part is pure imagination?
For example: If I 'suffer' a deviating social tendency, which I want to act out, is my social expulsion a certainty, probability or possibility? I can look around at the people who are already acting out such tendencies and at how people react to it, and deduce a probable outcome for my own situation. I could drop hints to my friends and family, delicately enter it into conversation, and deduce their attitude from their responses.
I could also use my imagination more actively than for just deducing from known facts. I might imagine that my social status will grow because of slight deviation, which people often see as brave. I might imagine that people will want to beat me up and/or oust me for not conforming to the general social ideal, while not taking into account the fact that those who already love you have the tendency to accept these things even if they are not considered 'normal'.
My imagination might take me so far as to end my life rather than suffer the imagined rejection.
The monkey dreams that it is human...
One of the things we are collectively imagining, our dream, our most important idea is that we are humans, wholly different from the other creatures flocking this earth. The biggest real difference, however, is that we can imagine this; that we can fantasize about being the pinnacle of creation/evolution, about being put here for a reason, with purpose. What about the creatures whom have no idea of purpose? Do they have no reason for being here besides our convenience? I think, therefore I am - I do not think, thus I am not? Reason through reason? It seems like a bit of a waste to me, and nature does not do waste. Observe...
Almost every part of our world contains ants and/or termites. They have complex societies which are rigidly hierarchical and are run by means of an array of biochemical communication signals. Their complicated tunnel systems run under our feet and through our houses. Try as we might to fight them, there are always more ants and termites to take the place of those we exterminate in all our inventive little ways, because they have their own inventive little ways.
Imagine that ants start building palaces in your back garden, raid your fridge guerrilla style, eat your cat alive, and to add insult to injury, declare that they have just realized that the world was made for them, and it's about damn time they took over; look at the mess we made of it... I like to imagine the look on your face.
You see, it's just a story, a dream, and even though the dream has gone nightmarishly wrong, we have gotten so used to thinking of these stories as facts that we can't let them go for the juvenile fantasies they are.
In how many areas of your life is this confusion present and active? Are you working in accordance with ideas and goals which are spun from the yarn of your own life, fulfilling you and offering you experience and growth, so you end up with a wonderful and interesting story to tell, or are you struggling with yourself in an attempt to be someone or something that fits into an ideal, cram yourself into an existing story that might not even make you happy if achieved?
Are you a monkey being with opportunities through free imagination or a human being limited by predetermined ideas and goals?
Or, put more simply: are you happy enough with your life?
... another monkey
So, I am the Monkey Queen. As you can see, I like asking annoying questions and telling people off for being dense. On the other hand, I like being happy, and like to see happy people around me. Therefore I hope that we can all learn something out of the questions, information, discussions and stories posted here.
If you are with us, let us embrace the premise that we are Pan Narrans, the storytelling chimpanzee. Join us around the fire for sharing the stories that might light up and embolden our lives.
